The series averaged 15.5 million viewers, topped by the 18 million who watched the Spurs’ clinching game on Sunday, the Nielsen Co. said.

Just as Oscar host Seth MacFarlane set his sights on a variety of targets with a mixture of hits and misses, the motion picture academy spread the gold around to a varied slate of films. “Argo” won best picture as expected, along with two other prizes. But “Life of Pi” won the most awards with four, including a surprise win for director Ang Lee.

“Les Miserables” also won three Academy Awards, while “Django Unchained” and “Skyfall” each took two.

Mitt Romney is set to clinch the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday night with a win in the Texas primary, a triumph of endurance for a candidate who came up short four years ago and watched this year as voters flirted for months with a carousel of GOP rivals.

According to the Associated Press count, Romney was sure to pass the 1,144 delegates needed to win the nomination on Tuesday unless he flopped badly in the Texas contest, an unlikely scenario with no one else campaigning.

Mitt Romney stormed out of New Hampshire Wednesday with a historic achievement under his belt, having scored back-to-back wins in the first two nominating contests, and vowing to take that momentum into South Carolina.

McNeese State’s women’s basketball team improved to 7-1 and extended their winning streak to seven games here Saturday with a 78-23 victory over Southern-New Orleans.  The win also extended McNeese’s home winning streak to 17 games, dating back to last season.  The 23 points by SUNO is a school record for fewest points yielded by a McNeese team.  The previous record was 29 points scored by Rice during the 1977-78 season. McNeese State’s women’s basketball team won their fifth straight game with a 72-59 win over Houston here Saturday to improve to 5-1 on the year.  The 5-1 start is the best start under head Coach Brooks Williams and is the second best start since the 1996-97 team started 6-0.

“Anytime we can win in a tournament environment, it is very helpful for the end of the season.  I’m really proud of the girls for getting prepared and ready to play. Playing back-to-back tournament’ is a great learning lesson,” said head coach Brooks Donald Williams. View full article »
