ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested convicted sex offender Wesley T. Lummus, 23, 2010 Patton Street, Lot # 7, Sulphur, after an investigation revealed he created several user profiles and accessed numerous Internet social media website, as prohibited by law for sex offenders of certain crime with juvenile victims.

Lummus, who was convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in Calcasieu Parish in February 2011, also failed to provide every email address, online screen name, or other online identifier used to communication on the internet to law enforcement before it was used, as required by law for all registered sex offenders.

Lummus was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 10 counts unlawful use of social networking website; and 1 count failure to register as a sex offender.

Prodded to be more candid with Congress, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Wednesday the administration’s flawed health care website needed a couple of hundred fixes when it went online more than a month ago and conceded, “we’re not there yet” in making all needed repairs.

At the same time, she turned aside any suggestion that the system be taken off line until it could be fixed fully. Doing so “wouldn’t delay people’s cancer or diabetes or Parkinson’s” disease, she told the Senate Finance Committee.

The warnings about the Internet problem have been splashed across Facebook and Google. Internet service providers have sent notices, and the FBI set up a special website.

Federal prosecutors in Virginia have shut down one of the world’s largest file-sharing sites, Megaupload.com, and charged its founder and others with violating piracy laws — a day after a 24-hour blackout of popular websites such as Wikipedia drew national attention to the issue.
