Legal Marijuana goes on sale in Washington

Washington became the second state Tuesday to allow people to buy marijuana legally in the U.S. without a doctor’s note as customers eager to be the first to buy pot lined up outside stores.

People began purchasing marijuana at 8 a.m. at Bellingham’s Top Shelf Cannabis, one of two stores in the city north of Seattle that started selling pot as soon as it was allowed under state regulations. Several dozen people waited outside before the store opened.

Colorado collects $2M in Recreational Pot Taxes

Colorado made roughly $2 million in marijuana taxes in January, state revenue officials reported Monday in the world’s first accounting of the recreational pot business.

The tax total reported by the state Department of Revenue indicates $14.02 million worth of recreational pot was sold from 59 businesses. The state collected roughly $2.01 million in taxes.

Denver, Seattle rooting for Pot Bowl?

If all goes as oddsmakers have predicted, the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks will win the conference championship games on Sunday and gear up for what will be a Super Bowl for the ages.

Not because of the talents that will be going head to head, but the first ever Marijuana Bowl? That’s something you don’t hear every day.

These two teams represent the major cities in Colorado and Washington, the only states that have legalized recreational marijuana. Allen St. Pierre, the executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, said that if this ends up being the matchup for the Super Bowl, it will be featuring “the two most pro-cannabis-legalization cities in the US.” He joked that the game should be renamed “The Super Oobie Doobie Bowl.”

Legal Recreational Pot Industry opens in Colorado

Crowds were serenaded by live music as they waited for the nation’s first legal recreational pot shops to open. They ate doughnuts and funnel cakes as a glass-blower made smoking pipes. Some tourists even rode around in a limo, eager to try weed but not so eager to be seen buying it.

And when the sales began, those who bought the drug emerged from the stores, receipt held high, to cheers.
