Retailers keeping tabs on Consumers’ Return Habits

It’s not just the government that might be keeping tabs on you. Many retailers are tracking you, too — or at least your merchandise returns.

The companies say it’s all in the name of security and fighting fraud. They want to be able to identify chronic returners or gangs of thieves trying to make off with high-end products that are returned later for store credit.

Historic Freeze could break Temp Records

The deep freeze expected soon in the Midwest, New England and even the South will be one to remember, with potential record-low temperatures heightening fears of frostbite and hypothermia.

It hasn’t been this cold for decades – 20 years in Washington, D.C., 18 years in Milwaukee, 15 in Missouri – even in the Midwest, where bundling up is second nature. Weather Bell meteorologist Ryan Maue said, “If you’re under 40 (years old), you’ve not seen this stuff before.”

Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress Wednesday that a serious national security leak required the secret gathering of telephone records at The Associated Press as he stood by an investigation in which he insisted he had no involvement.

Pestered by Republicans and some Democrats, Holder testified that he has faith in the individuals conducting the broad investigation, driven in large part by GOP outrage last year over the possibility that administration officials leaked information to enhance President Barack Obama’s national security reputation in an election year.

After getting dominated on both sides of the ball for most of the first half of Super Bowl XLVI, the New England Patriots used a record-tying drive to take a 10-9 lead at halftime.

Another stellar Steve Weatherford punt pinned Tom Brady and New England back at their own 4-yard line with 4:03 left in the half and the Patriots trailing 9-3. Sixteen plays later, the Patriots were in the end zone. The 96-yard drive tied a Super Bowl record. View full article »
