Marijuana Poisoning on the Rise in Pets

Please don’t let your dog drink the bong water.

Calls reporting pet poisonings by marijuana have increased by about 30 percent since 2009, from 213 calls that year to 320 in 2013, according to the Animal Poison Control Center, a division of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Those calls probably represent only a fraction of poisonings related to cannabis.

Legal Recreational Pot Industry opens in Colorado

Crowds were serenaded by live music as they waited for the nation’s first legal recreational pot shops to open. They ate doughnuts and funnel cakes as a glass-blower made smoking pipes. Some tourists even rode around in a limo, eager to try weed but not so eager to be seen buying it.

And when the sales began, those who bought the drug emerged from the stores, receipt held high, to cheers.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On November 9 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Cpl. Chris Johnson and Cpl. Kevin Hoover with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) observed an SUV and a car traveling together east on I-10 between Vinton and Sulphur.  After observing them commit traffic violations, Cpl. Hoover and Cpl. Johnson conducted traffic stops on both vehicles.

An investigation revealed the driver of the SUV, Robert L. Hayward, 34, Cairo, GA, and the driver and passengers of the car, Antonio D. Holt, 28, Pelham, GA, William Knight, 35, and Jacenta J. Copeland, 24, both of Cairo, GA, were traveling together from Houston to Cairo, Georgia, although both parties claimed to be traveling alone.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On October 30, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Detective Sgt. Stuart Henderson conducted a stop on a car traveling eastbound between Vinton and Sulphur for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the driver of the car, Bryant E. Comeaux, 40, Trinity, Texas, began to act suspiciously.

After receiving consent from Comeaux, Sgt. Henderson conducted a search of the car and recovered a trash bag inside a cardboard box containing three plastic wrapped bundles of marijuana, weighing over 30 pounds, and three plastic bags of suspected cocaine, with a combined street value of approximately $65,000, a digital scale, smoking device and rolling papers throughout the car.

Chris Johnson were working as a two-man unit when they conducted a stop on a car traveling eastbound on I-10 near the Cameron/Creole exit for a traffic violation.

The driver of the car, Virginia K. Bolton, 29, 391 Ling Street, Houston, and passenger George L. Williams, Jr., 34, 648 Sycamore, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, who were accompanied by a 5 year old family member, advised detectives they were traveling from Houston to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

When the driver of the car, Michael D. Boeh, 45, 5327 Orange Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio, began to act suspiciously during the traffic stop, Cpl. Hoover asked for permission to search the car and he refused.

When the driver of the car, Brendon K. Preston, 27, 1401 Lincoln Avenue, Marrero, LA, began to act suspiciously during the traffic stop, Sgt. Henderson asked for permission to search the car and he refused.

Stuart Henderson stopped a vehicle on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 27 mile marker for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop while speaking to the driver, Viet Huna Nguyen, 31, 441 Avenue A, Marrero, LA, Sgt. Henderson smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
