Officials fed up with public swearing in one town say that forcing the potty-mouthed to pay up might be the right antidote.

Residents attending town meeting in Middleborough on Monday night were scheduled to vote on whether to impose a $20 fine for public swearing. The cruise ship that capsized off Italy’s coast will take up to 10 months to remove, officials said, as rough seas off the Tuscan coast forced the suspension of recovery operations.

Officials called off both the start of operations to remove 500,000 gallons (1.8 million liters) of fuel and the search for people still missing Sunday after determining the Costa Concordia had moved four centimeters (an inch and a half) over six hours, coupled with waves of more than one meter (three feet). DEVELOPING: Coroner’s officials identified the man whose dismembered head, hands and feet were found in a Hollywood park, but they’re not releasing his name as police continue to hunt for his killer, authorities said Friday.

The identity, age and hometown of the victim was withheld because his next of kin had not been notified and because police investigators had placed a “security hold” on the information, Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter said. View full article »
