C.A.T Team makes Pot Bust on I-10

TOTALLY HITS RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On November 13 at approximately 11:00 a.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Detective Sgt. Derek Goss conducted a stop on a vehicle near mile marker 38 traveling eastbound on I-10 for a traffic violation.

When Sgt. Goss spoke with the driver, Joseph Zamora, 23, California, and the passenger, they began to act suspiciously. Zamora and the passenger also gave conflicting stories about their reason for travel. Sgt. Goss detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and observed marijuana in plain view.

TOTALLY HITS RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On January 10 at approximately 9:40 a.m., the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Sgt. Derek Goss conducted a stop on a vehicle near mile marker 30 traveling eastbound on I-10 for a traffic violation.

When Sgt. Goss was talking with the driver of the car, Jessica Calloway, 29, Stone Mountain, Georgia, she began to act suspiciously. Sgt. Goss asked for permission to search the vehicle but Calloway refused. He then deployed his trained and certified drug detection K-9 “Basco” to conduct a free air sniff around the vehicle and Baso provided a positive response to the odor of controlled substance coming from the vehicle.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On March 11, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a Sulphur gas station regarding two men sleeping inside a car parked at the gas pumps.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the driver of the car, later identified as Alan M. Johnson, 22, 2631 Main Street, and passenger Gerell K. Coco, 23, 10041 Nehru Avenue, both of Baton Rouge, and detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the car.

Marijuana Poisoning on the Rise in Pets

Calls reporting pet poisonings by marijuana have increased by about 30 percent since 2009, from 213 calls that year to 320 in 2013, according to the Animal Poison Control Center, a division of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Those calls probably represent only a fraction of poisonings related to cannabis.

Sources familiar with the situation say when L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies searched the house … there were 2 large cookie jars filled with weed in plain view. There were also 4 – 5 empty codeine bottles in the mansion.

Crowds were serenaded by live music as they waited for the nation’s first legal recreational pot shops to open. They ate doughnuts and funnel cakes as a glass-blower made smoking pipes. Some tourists even rode around in a limo, eager to try weed but not so eager to be seen buying it.

And when the sales began, those who bought the drug emerged from the stores, receipt held high, to cheers.

CPSO ARRESTS MAN FOR 4TH DWI

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a DWI and seatbelt checkpoint at the 800 block of Sam Houston Jones Pkwy in Moss Bluff on Saturday, November 30, and a roving DWI and seatbelt detail between November 22 – 29 to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, as well as, people who were not wearing their seatbelt.

One thousand, one hundred and ten (1110) vehicles were checked; four (4) field sobriety tests were administered. Leigh Ann Bullock, 53, 5240 Bell Springs Road, Dripping Springs, Texas, was arrested for DWI 1st.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On April 22, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Detective Sgt. Jeff Cole conducted a stop on a car traveling eastbound on I-10 between Vinton and Sulphur for a traffic violation.

When Sgt. Cole spoke with the driver, Emily T. Wallace, 31, 1022 Huge Wallace Road, Lafayette, he detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the car.

During a subsequent search of the car, Sgt. Cole recovered a can with a screw type false bottom, containing approximately 2 ounces of methamphetamine. He also recovered a small bag on her person containing approximately 2 ounces of methamphetamine, and 2 partially burnt marijuana cigarettes, along with a spoon, and a syringe from inside the car.
