2014 LA Law Enforcement Torch Run

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will host the 2014 LA Law Enforcement Torch Run Thursday, May 22, beginning at the Civic Center steps at 8:30 a.m. and ending at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office at 5400 E. Broad Street, for a distance of approximately 5 miles.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is an international series of torch relays, run by law enforcement officers leading up to each state or nation’s Special Olympic Summer Games. The Special Olympics Louisiana State Summer Games will be held May 23-25, 2014 at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. Law enforcement officials carry the Flame of Hope across the state culminating with the Torch Run Final Leg, and the lighting of the cauldron to officially open the Special Olympics Louisiana Summer Games in Hammond.

TSA wants Law Enforcement at Checkpoints

The Transportation Security Administration recommended Wednesday that airports post armed law enforcement officers at security checkpoints and ticket counters during peak hours.

The recommendation was one of 14 determined after a nationwide review of security at airports prompted by a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport last fall.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Academy will hold its 106th Basic Law Enforcement Graduation Ceremony Thursday, November 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the Contraband Room on the 2nd floor at the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Thirty-three (33) cadets representing Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office, DeRidder Police Department, Eunice Police Department, Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, McNeese State University Police Department, Oakdale Police Department, Sulphur Police Department, Rayne Police Department, and Westlake Police Department have participated in this graduating class.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On October 26, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Dobbertine Road and Leger Road in Lake Charles.

Upon arrival, the deputy discovered the truck appeared to have run off the road and struck a utility pole. When the deputy approached the truck and spoke with the driver, Zachery K. Vezina, 35, 219 Cobb Road, Lake Charles, he detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and he appeared very unsteady on his feet. Vezina advised the deputy numerous times that he was drunk.
