2014 LA Law Enforcement Torch Run



ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will host the 2014 LA Law Enforcement Torch Run Thursday, May 22, beginning at the Civic Center steps at 8:30 a.m. and ending at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office at 5400 E. Broad Street, for a distance of approximately 5 miles.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is an international series of torch relays, run by law enforcement officers leading up to each state or nation’s Special Olympic Summer Games. The Special Olympics Louisiana State Summer Games will be held May 23-25, 2014 at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. Law enforcement officials carry the Flame of Hope across the state culminating with the Torch Run Final Leg, and the lighting of the cauldron to officially open the Special Olympics Louisiana Summer Games in Hammond.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — Friday, July 13, Sheriff Tony Mancuso, along with eight other leaders in Louisiana, past and present, was inducted into the Louisiana Justice Hall of Fame during a ceremony held in Baton Rouge, LA.

The LA Justice Hall of Fame was established by the LA State Penitentiary Museum Foundation Board of Directors in 2004 to honor and acknowledge the men and women in Louisiana who have served their community and their state in the honorable professions of law enforcement, the judiciary, criminal justice, and civil service.

Dozens of officers in riot gear flooded down the steps of Los Angeles City Hall just after midnight and started dismantling the two-month-old camp two days after a deadline passed for campers to leave the park.

Officers in helmets and wielding batons and guns with rubber bullets converged on the park from all directions with military precision and began making arrests after several orders were given to leave. Defiant Los Angeles campers who were chanting slogans as the officers surrounded the park, booed when an unlawful assembly was declared. Police say more than 200 people were detained during the massive raid. ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA — On September 13 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Detective Sgt. Jeff Cole conducted a stop on an SUV near mile marker 30 traveling east on I-10 for a traffic violation.

During the traffic stop, Sgt. Cole allowed his K-9 “Basco” to conduct a free air sniff of the air around the SUV. After Basco alerted to the odor of narcotics, Sgt. Cole conducted a search of and recovered a box in the cargo area containing approximately 4.5 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $10,000. View full article »
