Why Nation’s Top Doc say Ebola won’t spread US



Ebola has arrived in the United States and people are frightened.

The nation’s top infectious diseases expert says it’s perfectly normal to feel anxious about a virus that kills so fast and is ravaging parts of West Africa.

“People who are scared, I say, `We don’t take lightly your fear. We respect it. We understand it,'” said Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health.

Your medical plan is facing an unexpected new fee. It’s to help cover people with pre-existing conditions under President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.

The $63-per-head fee – buried in a recent regulation -will hit health plans serving an estimated 190 million Americans, mostly workers and their families. It’s payable starting in 2014.

Sharon Osbourne says she had a double mastectomy after learning she carries a gene that increases the risk of developing breast cancer.

Osbourne told Hello! magazine that “I didn’t want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me.”

The 60-year-old “America’s Got Talent” judge, who had colon cancer a decade ago, said that without the surgery, “the odds are not in my favor.”

Cost estimates for a key part of President Obama’s health care overhaul law have ballooned by $111 billion from last year’s budget, and a senior Republican lawmaker on Friday demanded an explanation.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., wants to know by Monday why the estimated ten-year cost of helping millions of middle-class Americans buy health insurance has jumped by about 30 percent.  View full article »
