Gun Control Activist forgot he was carrying gun while visiting school

A Buffalo, N.Y. community activist who is well known locally for pushing for a highly restrictive 2013 gun control law has been arrested for — wait for it — carrying a gun illegally at a public elementary school.

The arrested gun-control advocate, Dwayne Ferguson, caused quite a scene at Harvey Austin Elementary School, reports local CBS affiliate WIVB.

Braced for a fight, President Barack Obama on Wednesday unveiled the most sweeping proposals for curbing gun violence in two decades, pressing a reluctant Congress to pass universal background checks and bans on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines like the ones used in the Newtown, Conn., school shooting.

A month after that horrific massacre, Obama also used his presidential powers to enact 23 measures that don’t require the backing of lawmakers. The president’s executive actions include ordering federal agencies to make more data available for background checks, appointing a director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and directing the Centers for Disease Control to research gun violence.

Vice President Joe Biden vowed urgent action against gun violence in America Wednesday, pledging steps by the Obama administration that he said could “take thousands of people out of harm’s way” and improve the safety of millions more.

But a day ahead of a meeting with the National Rifle Association, which has sunk past gun control efforts and is opposing any new ones, Biden signaled that the administration is mindful of political realities that could imperil sweeping gun control legislation, and is willing to settle for something less. He said the administration is considering its own executive action as well as measures by Congress, but he didn’t offer specifics.

Recalling the shooting rampage that killed 20 first graders as the worst day of his presidency, President Barack Obama pledged to put his “full weight” behind legislation aimed at preventing gun violence.

Obama voiced skepticism about the National Rifle Association’s proposal to put armed guards in schools following the Dec. 14 tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The president made his comments Saturday in an interview that aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On October 22, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a house in Sulphur regarding a theft. When deputies arrived, they spoke with the victim who advised several pieces of jewelry, worth over $500, and three firearms, were missing from her home.

Detectives also discovered Charles W. Franks, 34, 1418 Picard Road, Sulphur, had been hired to do some work at the victim’s house about the time the items came up missing. During further investigation, detectives learned several pieces of the stolen jewelry were sold by Franks to a local thrift store.

When questioned by detectives, Franks confirmed he stole the jewelry and handguns from the victim’s house and sold them for cash.

Local ad agencies in Washington, D.C., should be encouraged to create ads to “really brainwash people” to give up their interest in guns, Eric Holder once told a Democratic women’s group, according to a newly dug-up video showing a younger version of the current attorney general.

In the 1995 video, Holder, who at the time was U.S. attorney for the crime-ridden District of Columbia under President Bill Clinton, said persuading kids to reject guns was not going to be easy to do since they were so prevalent in movies, TV and music. View full article »
