Newt Gingrich laid a stark attack on his rival in the run-up to Florida’s “winner -take-all” Republican presidential primary Tuesday, accusing Mitt Romney of being no different than President Obama and suggesting the frontrunner will be a threat to religious freedom.

As Romney seeks to tighten his grip on the Republican presidential nomination, charging ahead by double-digits in most late polling in Florida, Gingrich told Fox News on Monday that Romney’s decision while Massachusetts governor to cut Medicaid funding for health care services that benefited Jewish and Catholic facilities demonstrated that he has little respect for religion. With less than 48 hours until polls open in Florida, two new surveys show Mitt Romney with a double-digit lead over opponent Newt Gingrich in the Sunshine State primary race, a margin attributable in part to an ad campaign worth millions by Romney surrogates.

A new NBC/Marist poll shows Romney up 15 over Gingrich in Florida, 42 percent to 27 percent. Rick Santorum is third with 16 percent, followed by Ron Paul with 11 percent. Four percent said they are undecided. View full article »


Newt Gingrich denied claims by his second ex-wife Thursday that he once asked her to agree to an “open marriage,” kicking off a presidential debate in South Carolina with a fiery defense of his personal life.

“The story is false,” Gingrich said.

The former House speaker was asked about a pair of interviews his ex-wife Marianne granted in which she leveled the charge about him seeking an open marriage – at the time, Gingrich was seeing Callista, whom he later married. View full article »


Trying to take the mantle as frontrunner in the Republican presidential race, Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney targeted President Obama on Thursday in their race to win New Hampshire voters while Newt Gingrich targeted the frontrunners, by intentional insults or not.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is reaching for a decisive victory next Tuesday in New Hampshire to solidify his standing. At a morning stop in Salem before heading to South Carolina, Romney labeled Obama a “crony capitalist,” invoking a theme that Rep. Michele Bachmann had used before dropping out of the race.
