Official: Robin Williams hanged himself with Belt

Struggling with depression, Robin Williams tried to cut his wrist and hanged himself with a belt in a bedroom of his San Francisco Bay Area home, officials said Tuesday.

His wife likely was home at the time but was unaware, Marin County Sheriff’s Lt. Keith Boyd said.

Boyd said Williams was last seen alive by his wife Sunday night when she went to bed. She woke up the next morning and left, thinking he was still asleep elsewhere in the home.

Hard-won expertise and a big dose of luck helped Chile escape its latest magnitude-8.2 earthquake with surprisingly little damage and death.

The country that suffers some of the world’s most powerful quakes has strict building codes, mandatory evacuations and emergency preparedness that set a global example. But Chileans weren’t satisfied Wednesday, finding much room for improvement. And experts warn that a “seismic gap” has left northern Chile overdue for a far bigger quake.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages and is continuing and more information will be released when available.

Investigators are trying to track down surveillance video at a bank where a man told cops he witnessed what he believed was Philip Seymour Hoffman buying drugs from two men the night before his death.

A man told police he saw the actor withdraw large amounts of cash at an ATM at a bank near Hoffman’s West Village apartment at about 8pm Saturday night. He said he saw Hoffman hand over the cash and appear to purchase drugs from two men, both wearing messenger bags, who appeared to be working together.

The decision – disclosed in court just days after prosecutors publicly rejected Holmes’ offer to plead guilty if they took the death penalty off the table – elevated the already sensational case to a new level and could cause it to drag on for years.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — Today the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office upgraded the charges against Brian D. Diamond, 41, 904 S. Perkins Ferry Road, Moss Bluff, from 2nd degree battery to manslaughter since the death of Matthew V. Crochet. Diamond’s bond has been increased from $350,000 to $950,000. These charges stem from an early morning fight on January 1 at a New Year’s Eve party on S. Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man, later identified as Matthew V. Crochet, 36, Moss Bluff, lying on the ground unresponsive. The investigation revealed a physical altercation between Crochet and Diamond occurred at the party where alcohol was served. Medical emergency personnel were called and transported Crochet to a Lafayette hospital for treatment for severe head trauma where he died on January 2 as a result of his injuries.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. Friday night the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a traffic accident in the 4500 block of Gray Rd. in Vinton. The investigation revealed a single vehicle accident occurred when a motorcycle was traveling westbound and failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and skidded for about twenty feet, separating the driver from the motorcycle.

George M. Gilliam, 47, 1979 White Oak St., Vinton, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Coroner’s Office. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident; however, a toxicology report will be conducted as mandated by state law. View full article »
