Naysayers would have you believe Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm can only mean one thing: Bambi and Mickey Mouse are sure to appear in future “Star Wars” movies taking up lightsabers against the dark side of the Force.

Not so, say experts who’ve watched Disney’s recent acquisition strategy closely. If anything, The Walt Disney Co. has earned credibility with diehard fans by keeping its fingerprints off important film franchises like those produced by its Marvel Entertainment and Pixar divisions.

Embarrassed by Republicans, Democrats amended their convention platform Wednesday to add a mention of God and declare that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

Many in the audience booed after the convention chairman, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, ruled that the amendments had been approved despite the fact that a large group of delegates had objected. He called for a vote three times before ruling.

Contraband Days

The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitor’s Bureau hosted a news conference today to reveal the rebranding and schedule of events including Josh Turner performing for the 2012 Contraband Days.

The festival has a new look for its 55th anniversary after undergoing an extensive branding exercise last year to “pinpoint the demographics and interests of target audiences to ensure the offerings and branding of the festival are communicating the spirit of the event.” View full article »

City of Lake Charles

As most of you know, the construction along Ryan Street will affect the normal parade route that the city usually takes. This year the parade will leave Bour Du Lac Drive and turn left to Mill Street and then back south on Ryan Street. Not a big change, but still a good change. View full article »
