Five men charged with plotting to bomb a bridge linking two wealthy Cleveland suburbs placed what they thought were real explosives at the site and repeatedly tried to detonate them using text messages from cellphones, according to an FBI affidavit filed in court.
Federal authorities on Tuesday described the men as anarchists who are angry with corporate America and the government and unknowingly worked with an FBI informant for months as they crafted and carried out their plan.

Five men, at least three of them anarchists, plotted to blow up a bridge near Cleveland, but there was no danger to the public because the explosives were inoperable and were controlled by an undercover FBI employee, the agency said Tuesday in announcing the men’s arrests.
The target of the plot was a bridge that carries a four-lane state highway over part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the Brecksville area, about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland, the FBI said.

The voyage of a cargo boat that carries space rocket components to Florida’s coast for NASA and the Air Force has stalled in a western Kentucky river after it slammed into an aging traffic bridge.

Authorities confirm the young man who died after jumping off the I-210 bridge is Taylor Johnson– the man prosecutors say is the one who started the trouble that ultimately led to the shooting death of Marine Daniel Gueringer at a Fourth of July party in 2009.
Johnson was awaiting trial on a charge of inciting a riot. He figured prominently in the trial of Bryce Perkins earlier this year when various witnesses’ testimony suggested Johnson’s behavior that night suggested he was looking for a fight, and set in motion the events that ultimately led to the killing. Eric Scott Radio has just learned that this morning around 1:00 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the I-210 bridge regarding a man who had jumped off the bridge.
The initial investigation revealed the man, Taylor R. Johnson, 22, Lake Charles, was a passenger in a truck traveling westbound up the bridge. About a quarter ways up the bridge, Johnson jumped out of the moving truck and climbed onto the railing of the bridge. The driver of the truck stopped and tried to talk Johnson down, but he jumped over the railing of the bridge. View full article »
