Like the exact date that Lindsay Lohan’s horrendous Elizabeth Taylor biopic “Liz & Dick” would air on Lifetime? That Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj’s egos would collide during “American Idol” auditions? That Donald Trump would act even more bizarrely than he did in 2011? And that Brad Pitt was even making a Chanel ad?

Seeing all that in their crystal ball, it’s understandable that the Mayans would have predicted doomsday in 2012. Little did they know that these celeb antics just pointed to yet another year in La-La Land.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — Sheriff Tony Mancuso announces taxpayers will be able to pay their 2012 property taxes online on the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office website at www.cpso.com by using a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit card.  Taxpayers may also view and print their bill from the website.

“We are always looking for ways to make it more convenient for the taxpayers to pay their taxes,” says Sheriff Mancuso.  “If you choose to pay online, there will be no lines to stand in and you will be able to pay your taxes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

Contraband Days

The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitor’s Bureau hosted a news conference today to reveal the rebranding and schedule of events including Josh Turner performing for the 2012 Contraband Days.

The festival has a new look for its 55th anniversary after undergoing an extensive branding exercise last year to “pinpoint the demographics and interests of target audiences to ensure the offerings and branding of the festival are communicating the spirit of the event.” View full article »

President Obama’s array of plans in his State of the Union speech was light on a key piece of context — namely, that his hands are so tied until after the election that it is doubtful many if any of them can be done in the remainder of his term. There can be little more than wishful thinking behind his call to end oil industry subsidies — something he could not get through a Democratic Congress, much less today’s divided Congress, much less in this election year.
