Investigation revealed that Mark Joseph Kibodeaux was driving west bound on West Prien Lake Road in a 2010 Chevrolet truck at a high rate of speed. Mr. Kibodeaux’s truck struck the rear of the 2000 Ford Mustang, driven by William Vasquez Jr. The impact caused Mr. Vasquez’s Mustang to spin out of control, striking the guard rail before being struck by a 2002 Jeep Wrangler on the passenger side. The impact displaced Mr. Smith from the passenger seat.
During the initial investigation Officers could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage on Kibodeaux’s breath. Mr. Kibodeaux was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital due to his injuries. Kibodeaux submitted to a blood alcohol test and was arrested for DWI 1st Offense and Careless Operation following his release from the hospital.
Blood test results showed that Mr. Kibodeaux had a blood alcohol level of 0.16 at the time of the accident. Investigating Officers believe that the accident is the result of Mr. Kibodeaux intoxication and driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the accident.
Charges were submitted to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office. When charges were accepted, Mr. Kibodeaux was arrested on two counts of Vehicular Homicide. A warrant was signed by 14th Judicial District Judge Sharon Wilson. Judge Wilson set Kibodeaux’s bond at $100,000.00. Kibodeaux was later transported to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. Sergeant John Benoit is the investigating officer, assisted by Corporal Scott Dougherty.
