ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — In July 2012, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a local check cashing business in reference to a report of a forged check.

Upon arrival, deputies were advised Savannah S. Gardiner, 27, 2226 Ray Street, Lake Charles, attempted to cash a forged check worth $1,400 check from a local business. When the cashier contacted the owner of the local business to verify the check and discovered the check was forged, Gardiner fled the store, leaving her Louisiana Identification Card with the cashier.

After further investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Gardiner in September 2012, however, after several attempts, detectives were unable to locate her.

On May 1, 2014, Gardiner was located and arrested on the active warrant when she signed in to visit an inmate at the Calcasieu Correctional Center. She was booked and charged with forgery.

When questioned by detectives, Gardiner confirmed to attempting to cash the forged check.

Judge Michael Canaday set her bond at $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
