ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On January 14, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Detective Cpl. Kevin Hoover conducted a stop on a truck traveling eastbound on I-10 near the Lake Charles loop for a traffic violation.

When the driver of the truck began to act suspiciously during the traffic stop, Cpl. Hoover asked for permission to search the truck and he refused.

After Cpl. Hoover’s K-9 “Mako” alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the truck, a search was conducted and a bag containing approximately 2.5 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $100,000, was recovered from under the rear seat of the truck.

The driver of the truck was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Once booked, it was learned the driver of the truck was using a false identity. After further investigation, the driver of the truck was identified as Calvin J. Catalon, Jr., 34, 203 Friendship Street, Lafayette, who was using a false identity due to the fact that he was a probation and parole fugitive from Texas.

Catalon was charged with possession of CDS II (cocaine) with intent to distribute; and resisting an officer by giving false information.

Judge Clayton Davis set his bond at $100,000.
