ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On January 28, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies patrolling in South Lake Charles observed a man, later identified as James P. Bertrand, Jr., 51, 3945 South Blue Sage Road, Lake Charles, in what appeared to be a narcotics transaction outside a gas station on Country Club Road.

Upon approaching Bertrand, deputies observed a smoking device in his back pocket. Bertrand then attempted to discard a clear plastic bag containing an off-white rock-like substance, discovered to be crack cocaine, which he had concealed in his mouth.

Bertrand was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of CDS II (crack cocaine); and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released on an $8,500 bond set by Judge David Ritchie.

CPSO Sr. Cpl. Cade Doucet and Deputy Jeremiah Landry were the arresting deputies.
