ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On January 16, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were contacted by the manager of Academy Sports & Outdoors Store regarding a report of internal theft from the store.

The manager advised detectives a security camera deployed in the shipping and receiving area captured manager Maurice E. Nugent, 41, 5852 Bennie Lane, Lake Charles, carrying a new trolling motor, worth over $500, out of the rear door. The trolling motor has since disappeared and has not been paid for nor returned to the store’s inventory.

Nugent was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft $500–$1,500 and was released on a $1,000 bond set by Judge Ron Ware.

Nugent is suspected in the theft of several thousands of dollars of additional merchandise from the store. The investigation is continuing with additional charges and arrests expected.
