ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On October 2, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a local business in Iowa in reference to a theft.

During the investigation, detectives discovered Lettie L. Ashley, 39, 205 Martin Street, Welsh, opened a bank account knowingly using a worthless check. She then intentionally wrote several worthless checks from the account to purchase over $550 worth of tools and pieces of equipment from the Iowa business.

When questioned by detectives, Ashley confirmed she used worthless checks to purchase the tools and equipment then sold them for cash.

Ashley was arrested on and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft over $500.

Judge Michael Canaday set her bond at $20,000.
