ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA — On March 13, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Criminal Patrol Sgt. Jeff Cole conducted a stop on an SUV traveling east on I-10 near mile marker 15 for a traffic violation.

When Sgt. Cole spoke with the driver, Sandra M. Lopez, 25, 8721 Town Park Drive, Houston, and passenger Hector E. Aguilera, 34, 76046 Carretera Colombia Street, Monterrey, Mexico, they began to act suspiciously. After receiving permission from Lopez to search the SUV, Sgt. Cole allowed his K9 “Basco” to conduct a free air sniff of the air around the car.

After Basco alerted to the odor of narcotics, Sgt. Cole conducted a search and recovered a black suit case containing approximately 75 pounds of marijuana in the cargo area of the SUV, with an estimated street value of $150,000.

Both Lopez and Aguilera were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

United States Border Patrol was contacted after detectives discovered Lopez and Aguilera were in the country illegally.
